ABOUT THE ARTIST

"The past is never dead. It's not even past.” — Requiem for a Nun, William Faulkner

German-American artist Ali Eckert grew up within two cultures and has been strongly influenced by American imagery.

With Eckert’s differentiated view on America’s culture and iconography his art dives deep into its pop culture. He explores the threshold between narrative and reality.

Surfaces play an important role in Eckert’s art: They constantly disguise more than they pretend to be. His art is bold, but also detailed, playful and enigmatic.

Covered with clues, Eckert’s staged American sceneries give an ambiguous view. Eckert‘s experience as a photographer and film director shines through in his art. All objects and sceneries are captured through photography.

Eckert‘s unique analog process marries photography and painting. In his unique transfer process Eckert manually coats pigments onto canvas. During the process he adds paint.

Ali Eckert works with mixed media, film and photography in his studios in Berlin, Wisconsin and Mallorca. His art has been shown in Europe, China and USA. Eckert’s work has been internationally collected and awarded (e.g. Sander Collection Basel, Zagoras Collection Athens, German Art Fund Hungary).
